Vertical bearing capacity of single pile relate to the important question whether the design is safe and economical or not in the pile foundation construction. There are many methods in the world, which can calculate the vertical bearing capacity of single pile. But all these methods aren' t perfect, scientific or economical. For this reason,the load-displacement curve is made use of in this paper when a pile is bore vertical load ,and the curve is applied for cusp catastrophe theory. As a result, the formulation of vertical bearing capacity of single pile is deduced, meanwhile, the dividing line between ductility failure and brittle failure is demarcated. The deduced formulation of vertical bearing capacity of single pile is performed on the practical construction and receive results, then the results is compared with the practical results, a satisfied conclusion is got.
