The structure of the cylindrical shell is used widely in Design and Building of Ship and Ocean Structure, as the external loading is various, the strength and stability of the cylindrical shell is still an important subject. In this thesis, it will be researched against the strength and stability of the cylindrical shell under nonuniform loading and the transition structure models of the cylindrical shell, using the finite element analysis software ANSYS.Firstly, comprehend and study the stability theory of the cylindrical shell under nonuniform loading.Secondly, the characteristics of stability for a ring-stiffened cylindrical shell under different cross uniform external pressure are studied, and the theory of it is discussed, and the regularity of it is also gotten. The curve of the stability with various geometrical parameters under different cross uniform external pressure is protracted by the analysis of the theory.Thirdly, based on the stability for a ring-stiffened cylindrical shell under different cross uniform external pressure, the optimizing design method can be set up and prove the optimizing design method correct.Fourthly, the finite element calculation models are built under the bending moments, and the characteristic buckling strength is gotten by the finite element analysis software ANSYS using the rigid region by the multi-node's restriction. Synchronously discuss the calculation method's applicability. The conclusion for the cylindrical shell under the bending moments can provide theory assurance in the actual engineering.Fifthly, by analyzing the transition structure models of cylindrical shell, the double arcs transition model is put forward, and the calculation results indicate that the new transition model is well.
