Environmental adaptability of ships is the important index to evaluate the performance of the equipment on ships. Ships are advancing in high speed. It will put higher requirement on the performance of navigational safety of ships under heavy sea. Many countries with great naval pay attention to the study of environmental adaptability of the ship in rough seas. So we must construct ships with high performance precisely, although the construction is a complicated engineering project which needs high techniques and a lot of cost. The physical simulation testing of the large scale model in real wave conditions will underpin the overall performance of ships. The research which I carry out in this paper is as follows:1.I analyze the reliability of physical simulation system of large scale model to perform testing efficiently from every aspect. Also I prepare for the testing.2.I perform the correlation study between the waves in sheltered sea regions and theoretical waves of ITTC by dealing with the short-term wave data in the sheltered sea region. I am able to investigate the feasibility of wave modeling in the physical simulation testing of the large scale model.3. Based on the dimensional analysis, I also perform a ship/large scale model correlation study from the motion equation of a ship. And I seek the methodology of extrapolating the motion of the ship from the physical simulation testing of the large scale model.4.I probe into introducing the non-linear motion of the ship by using signal processing, time series analysis, system identification, etc.
