A new method of creating the steel tubular space joint model has been discussed in this paper. And the nonlinear finite element method are taken on the steel tubular space joint.Based on the research of predecessors, the finite element method are taken on the steel tubular space joint used in a stadium with the assistance of SAP2000 and ABAQUS finite element procedure.The paper expounds the key position of the Tubular-joint in the application and development of the space structure. Points out the theoretical and the practical value of study and analyze tubular joint in depth. Considering the complex state under press, it is difficult to get the bearing-capacity by theory analysis.First, an integral analysis of steel truss has been taken to get the axial force with the assistance of SAP2000. then has gotten the axial force. ABAQUS is used to analysis the typical joints and to compare with the integral analysis result, so can validate the rationality of the joints model. A method on integrating integral analysis and node analysis to create the steel tubular space joint model has been discussed.Beginning with an assumption on ideal elastic—plastic material, the material and geometry being considered nonlinear. On the basis, a four-node shell element in ABAQUS is employed to simulate. The main mesh unit type is quadrilateral, but the place where is transitional areas is allowed to appear the triangle mesh unit. The method of applying load is step by step, according to the proportion of the integral analyzed load and axial force. The joint in the analysis, Numerical studies show the joint failure mechanisms and plasticity spread with loading. Has promulgated the pitch point destruction mechanism and uncovers the form, has promulgated the pitch point area stress, the strain shape. Some useful conclusions are conducted. Finally, further questions about the steel tubular space joint are discussed at the end of this paper. The conclusion is useful for the design of the steel tubular structure.
