Data communication has taken a more and more important position in the substation automation system. The Economical and reliable data communication has become the technical core of system. This article analyzed several common use communication way and their gains and losses in the substation automation system, put forward the "field bus + Ethernet" scheme and educed the "CAN-BUS /Ethernet" embedded gateway.The gateway chose the LPC2292 as its embedded CPU, and transplanted the embedded real-time operating systemμC/OS- II. Firstly, the article introduced the hardware of embedded gateway. And then, the article accounted the CAN protocol, the network architecture and principle of Ethernet and the design plan of two protocols' conversion. Finally, the article introduced the software of embedded gateway. The software used the modular design, it had theμC/OS- II system, CAN communication module, Ethernet communication module and protocols conversion module.The study and application of gives a better method for combination of field bus and Ethernet. The introduction of this gateway brings development of field bus and Ethernet in substation automation system together in the future.
