Matrix converter is a novel AC/AC converter, compare with conventional AC/DC link/AC converter and phase controlled AC/AC converter it has some advantages such as:(1) it has no dc link, power transport directly. Hence the transfer efficiency is high;(2) the resultant output voltages and input currents are sinusoidal, practically without subharmonics and higher order harmonics;(3) respectively independent controllable input and loads power factor;(4) bidirectional energy flow capability, suitable for four quadrant ac drive systems.(5) free scale control, compare with phase controlled ac/ac transducer, output frequency is not restricted by the frequency of supply. In this paper, firstly given an overview on two of the typical published transfer principles of MC's with three input and three output phases (33MC), direct transfer (Venturini principle) base on switch function arithmetic and indirect transfer arithmetic using space vector modulation (SVM). Secondly proposed a control strategy base on thought of the hysteresis-current control for three input and one output phases matrix converter (31MC), then given the form processes of 33MC's topology and its control strategy. At the same time a control strategy for line voltages input 31MC base on hysteresis-current control is presented. A novel SPWM carrier wave pre-modulating modulation is also proposed to solve the problem of output wave deterioration under the unbalance input statuses, by a math method the carrier wave pre-modulating is verified. Finally, simulation of Venturini principle is verified by using the Matlab/Simulink software. 31MC and 33MC base on the thought of hysteresis-current control are also simulated, additionally, line voltages input 31MC using SPWM carrier wave pre-modulating modulation is simulated under the conditions of balance and unbalance input statuses.Emphases of this paper are presentations and verifications of hysteresis-current control strategy for MC, and line input 31MC control strategy with SPWM carrier wave pre-modulating. Theory analysis and computer simulation in this paper provide the basic technology of MC.
