A Study On The Landscape And Environment Culture On The Reform Of "the Third Line" Factories

For historical reasons and economic development, a lot of "the third line" military factories which were built on the 50s and 60s have moved to the suburban cities since 1990s. Their old buildings and regions were deserted and were set aside. Until now their structure preserved well. How to make good use of them has a significant meaning in the future. Because most convert project of old factories exist in the cities, and most of them are civil industries so they have unitary form after conversion. The aim of conversion is still on the protection of civil industry culture and how to change them to a artistic space. After conversion they will become a part of culture of the city environment. For example: conversion as a museum, exhibition, art studio etc. However "the third line" factories are special factories of Chinese special historical period. They were found on political reasons. Most of them were military factories which were set up in far-away mountain areas. They were built in the same style of 50s and 60s of China. Because of the sealed environment, they have kept the style since they were found. They usually get very close to each other and they are the connection between the countryside and small towns.How to maintain and protect the special old style of these factories and reform them into new use is a question we designer have to face. The aim of this article is to analyze the condition of this kind of factories and give some ideal and suggestion to make good use of the special historical environment and reform this kind of factories. For the consideration of the tendency of to age of our society, make some meaningful suggestion base on the regional culture, sustainable development and the protection of "The third line" culture. The article sets 4 factories which were set in YiChang, HuBei province as an example. It mainly discusses ideal of convert them into Old people's sanatorium centre. In this way, we can make some contribution to the similar environment protection and utilization in the future.
