With the development of physiotherapy, different kinds of phototherapy apparatus have been come into being. However current phototherapy apparatus, whose transmitted peak wavelength or luminescent mode can not be changed during therapy, have deficiencies in applicability and moxibustion treatment is the important part of acupuncture , as known curative effect of moxibustion is brought about by heat effect. In order to resolve above problems and make use of curative effect of moxibustion, the idea of therapy using compound light is proposed. Meanwhile, a sort of physiotherapy system of compound light is developed based on this idea. Peak wavelength and luminescent mode of the physiotherapy system can be adjusted as required and using the compound light instrument of duplicating the spectrum of moxibustion. Laser technology is also used in the units.At first, history and development of light therapy are introduced in this paper. After spectrum measurement of different phototherapy apparatus in different range, a conclusion be drawn that the light spectrum, ranges from 600nm to 6μm, has high medical value. So the compound light physiotherapy system would use just these lights. In this paper, biological effects of compound light are researched on cellular or molecule level in different range, including biological effects of low level laser. The application of far infrared ray in sub-therapy of cancer is also been introduced specially. In all, the study on biological effects of light have established theoretical foundation for development of compound light physiotherapy system.In order to duplicate the spectrum from 600 nm to 6μm, tungsten-halogen lamp with wide spectral range is used as light source. We can module its power by switching flicker frequency, so to change the transmitted peak wavelength and stimulating frequency. Semiconductor laser, whose wavelength is 650nm in red light range, is also an important part of the physiotherapy system. It andtungsten-halogen lamps are fixed in an ellipsoid reflex housing. In this way, photospheric facula can be changed as required.Subsequently, control circuits of light source are given and how to design the software of system by VB and database. Curve of spectrum of the physiotherapy system in end of this paper, indicates that the spectrum of compound light physiotherapy system ranges just from 600 nm to 6μm and indeed the compound light instrument duplicate the spectrum of moxibustion Its peak wavelength can shift with the change of power of light source.
