The capability of communication networks is one of the critical factors to realize transformer substation automatic system. By analyzing the problems and shortages of the intercommunication of transformer substation automatic system that is used at present, and the advantage of the CAN BUS, it is brought forward that the data transmission of transformer substation automatic system is implemented by using the CAN BUS. Then the design and achievement of the motor protector are described in this paper, which is based on CAN BUS. The motor protector uses the DSP56F807 which is the series of the Motorola's DSP56800 as its kernel processor. The chip set has not only single chip's great steering capability but also digital signal processor's arithmetic capability. The CAN module embedded in the DSP simplifies the functional design of the site internetwork communication for the equipments of protection and controls, which not only enhances the real-time ability and reliability, but also reduces the cost of development and design for the equipment. To make the protector operates more quickly and reliably, the present protection criterion and principle are optimized, and also software and hardware technology into anti-interference method is applied at the same time.
