Intelligent transportation system (ITS) represents the tendency of the future transportation system. To achieve a wide range, all condition, real-time, precise and highly efficient integrated traffic transportation management system, ITS combines many techniques including the advanced information collection and processing, computer, communication and networking, automatic control. Communication and networking techniques play an important role in ITS, implementing the real-time location of vehicle, navigation service, vehicle dispatch and traffic management, and so on.This dissertation investigated two aspects of ITS: firstly, with the development of wireless communication and networking, a total network solution to traffic control information collection is proposed to collect the turn rate, location, speed, type of vehicle and others. Secondly, on the basis of a macro-traffic prediction model to forecast the future traffic flow in its rolling horizon optimization, i.e. dynamic window ant colony optimization (DW-ACO), we made some improvements on DW-ACO and proposed a traffic control algorithm of enhanced dynamic window ant colony optimization, which could be used in the previously mentioned solution.There were a lot of inadequate solutions in searching space due to the phase limitation. On the basis of rapid phase limit detection, we can efficiently improve the success searching ratio by checking the phase limitation of last two steps.With the SUMO simulation tools, the software implementation and performance evaluation of the proposed algorithm are studied accordingly. Simulation results showed that the algorithm performance was improved.
