The maritime management department such as VTS and port control usually regulate the ship's safety speeds and safety distances when entering or leaving the port according to experience in practice. Along with the development of transportation at sea in China and traffic density increasing rapidly, the influence of ship genernated waves is getting more and more dangerous to work boats on port fairway. The safety speeds and safety distances established according to experience could not meet the requirements of port safety. In order to ensure vessels enter or leave the port safely and efficiently in complicated situation, we must explicitly quantify and analyse the influence of ship genernated waves to diffenert kinds of work boats. This thesis is to deeply research on the problem, and provide some theory evidence and practical advices. This thesis is to introduce and study on the empirical formulas concerning ship-generated waves with the basic theory, and finds the respective limited conditions. This thesis adopts empirical formulas which fitting such problems according to the calculation of ship-generated waves' factors, such as limited conditions. The actual ship calculations of the general cargo ship, bulk carrier, container ship and oil tanker are conducted by matlab with using these empirical formulas. The rules concerning the influence of different kinds of vessels to the height of wave are concluded through analyzing the results of the calculation. And these rules also indicate that this thesis investigating different kinds of vessels' ship-generated waves has real meaning. The linear rolling model concerning the other ship affected by the ship-generated waves is established on the basis of the above. The matlab simulation results are compared with the results of ship model exeriment. The results are accordant, which proves the model and arithmetic adopted in this thesis are correct.
