A Study On The Expert System For Ship Collision Avoidance

For the purpose of decreasing or avoiding the ship collision accidents caused by men's faults, fitting the trend that the rated number of seamen on a ship is reducing, promoting the study on ship's automation, assuring the security of ship's marine navigation, this thesis conducts an thorough research on the principles of ship collision avoidance, then utilizes the technology of expert system and the fruits achieved in quantitative investigation on ship collision avoidance to establish a more reasonable and more perfect repository for collision avoidance, designs and partly realizes a expert system for ship collision avoidance which can help navigators make real-time decisions to avoid collision , and help ships avoid collision automatically under given conditions. The main research work includes several parts, which will be represented as bellow:(1) By studying the data and literature on ship collision or ship collision avoidance, this thesis explains the significance of the research on ship collision avoidance, concludes three phases of the same, analyses the meaning and status quo of the expert system for ship collision avoidance, advances the thought of researching.ship collision avoidance with the technology of expert system and mathematical models.(2) Outline the concept, functions and structures of the expert system; introduce the basic characteristics and developing steps of the same, and knowledge-based reasoning.(3) Conduct a comprehensive and systematical study on the full process of ship collision avoidance, establishes mathematical models for the safety passing distance, the close quarters situation and the risk of ship collision, quantificationally plots out the ship encounter situations and collision avoidance actions for such situations, and discusses the time and range that the action should be taken and the time to resume its course.(4) A course to design the expert system for ship collision avoidance is proposed, which divides the repository for collision avoidance into repository of rules and repository of models, and correspondingly represents them with rules and processes respectively, realizes the comprehensive appliction of the technology of expert system and mathematical models.(5) Partly realizes the expert system for ship collision avoidance by using Visual...
