| In recent years, a lot of long-span bridges have been built. Most of these bridges are across the rivers or sea where the flow has deep depth and high velocity. It is a great challenge to design and built the bridges in these areas. As to bridge foundation, more difficulties will be suffered. Whether the deep-water foundation is rational will take great effect to the economical efficiency and safety of bridge. Type selecting for bridge foundation has an early start abroad, but the study method is Expert-System. This kind of selecting has not carried out in China. After collecting and analyzing the foundation types for existing bridges, we found that different countries paid particular attention to type selection. So, the studies that based on Expert-System can not be applied mechanically.In this paper, the research work will be carried out as followings:First, based on present research reports and internet resources, the foundation types and building condition of the long-span bridge can be collected. So, the difference in type selecting between China and abroad can be found.Secondly, deepwater foundation has to support special load and use peculiar construction machine. The paper lists the difference between deepwater foundation and foundation on land or shallow water.Thirdly, as the type selecting studies can not be applied mechanically from abroad, another selecting model has to be set up, which totally fits with deepwater foundation in China. This model uses 15 impact factors to form three grades evaluation system, and then uses AHP method to calculate the objective weighted value. After that, it uses fuzzy synthetic evaluation method to give judgement for different plans.Fourthly, A program named "BFDW2006"(Bridge Foundation in Deep Water, Version 2006) with Microsoft Visual Basic 6.0 language is used in type selecting.
