Cable-membrane structure is a kind of novel space structure. The structure obtain stiffness so as to bear load under prestress. How to obtain the best shape in the case of satisfying functional and beautiful requirement is the cmphases of shape analysis under load. It is also one of difficult and crucial problems to establish global model to analyses taking side of membrane and supporting structures together. In this paper, shape-state optimization and coupled method of cable-membrane structures are studied on the basis of summarizing research status both at home and abroad.Firstly, the formulation of geometrical non-linear finite element is deduced for analyzing cable-membrane structure in the paper. The judgments of cable slack and membrane fold, solution and convergence of non-linear equations are given.With the finite software of ANSYS, the optimal program of cable-membrane is compiled, the upper membrane structure and the global model including the upper membrane and the under support are optimized within reasonable optimal variables. Through setting design variables and objective function, different purposes of designer are gained and the design variables of the best shape are obtained. The optimal results not only overcome the shortcoming of getting the initial membrane stress by experience but also make direction effect on engineering design.The cable-membrane structure is analysed adopting decoupled and coupled methods in order to compare the difference between two methods and research the influence to every member in the paper. Engineering advice is given through comparing iterative curves of optimal variables, force and displacement between the upper membrane and the global model. The global model simulates the true model and reflects the structure stress accurately. So the global model should be established in form-findings and load-case analysis of cable-membrane structure.The research findings will guide the design and establish a solid base for the cutting of cable-membrane structure..
