Study On Frank Gehry's Creation Of Architectural Shape Languge

American architect, Frank·Gehry, is the architectural master in the worldwide. And his works are also famous for their distinct character of shapes, thick atmosphere of times and unique style of art throughout the world. Moreover, these works have strong visual wallop for they represent the characters of our times on the aspect of architecture and visual aesthetic vividly, and it is these works that make Frank·Gehry become one of the most controversial van-ward architects in world scale.The unique shape of details is the character of Frank·Gehry's works that contain his comprehension about various cultural phenomenon in our society. As the object this project research on, I will research and unscramble his works from the three aspects: the cultural gene, aesthetical dimensionality and technical charm, and then present the fantastical and colorful shape language and its constitutive character comprehensively.This thesis contains three essential parts as follows:The nourishment of multi-culture is the main cultural background that Frank·Gehry's shape language founds on. He draws aspiration and uses creative trick for a reference from the elite culture and then use it to promote the quality of mass culture and interest of people. In the process of drawing and promotion, he builds up his own special culture and pattern of expression. From Frank·Gehry's work we are aware that contemporary architecture should embody the constitute character of time culture, then the right time standard can be found for the architecture and the architecture as history carrier also will not lose the function.The expansion of architectural aesthetic domain is the main sign that Frank·Gehry's shape language matures. And breaking and reconstructing is the important process that Frank·Gehry develops new standard of architectural aesthetic.
