The mud-rock flow is common natural disaster in the mountainous areas. In our country mountainous areas approximately composes 2/3 of the total area of national territory, and our country is one of the countries with widespread distribution and more serious disaster of the mud-rock flow in the world. With the development of economy and extending of transportation lines in mountainous areas in our country, the situation that engineering facilities such as bridges and culverts in roads and railroads come across the disaster of mud-rock flow also increase. So the research to the disaster of mud-rock flow is increasingly paid attention by common people.This article carries on the thorough discussion about the harm and the formed condition of the mud-rock flow disaster.Through the analysis on condition of water source and the earth source and the terrain landform which cause the disaster of mud-rock flow, the article has made the detailed elaboration to the microscopic critical condition formula and the macroscopic distinction function about how the mud-rock flow of water-power type and soil-power type form. This article also analyzes the harmful way of mud-rock flow disaster to the bridge building, and investigates thoroughly destructive forms and the mechanisms of each kind of harmful ways, and points out the corresponding engineering measures to avoid or reduce the loss and the harm of the mud-rock flow disaster during the construction of the bridge building.At the same time this article makes the thorough careful analysis of bridge buildings' location and pillars' foundation and the bridges' clearance design and so on. The special elaboration about how protect bridge pillars against the mud-rock flow is carried on, and the practical feasible protective plans also are proposed in the article.On the base of above analysis, the article makes specially the thorough elaboration about preventing and curing present situation and the tendency of the development of roads or railroads mud-rock flow disaster, which is related to the bridge building in our country.
