To cater to the architectural function, the upper structure may differ from the bottom structure on form. Or they may only differ on the size of pillars with the same form. In order to harmonize them, the transition floor is adopted, which can be utilized in high rising buildings by way of different forms, including the beam transition floor, the box transition floor, the truss transition floor, the thick plate transition floor and the inclined column transition floor, etc. Transition floor is one of the main components in Reinforced Conctere hith rise buildings.Firstly, by summarizing the common design methods of thick plate transition floor concisely, this paper point out some shortcomings existing in them, such as too many artificial assumptions and ignorance of interaction between columns or shear walls and thick plate transition floor, and etc.Secondly, to eliminate the shortcomings mentioned earlier, the paper puts forward a new method. The first step is to analyze the whole structures of tall building which comprising the thick plate transition floor, obtain the inner forces of the columns and shera walls which connect to the thick plate. These inner forces are the loads acting on the thick plate transition floor. The second step is to create a combined FEA model in which using solid elements to simulate thick plate, using beam elements to simulate columns and beams and using shell elements to simulate shear walls. After calculation, the stress distribution of the model can be achieved. The last step is to proceed the design of placing steel bars according to the calculation result. Design method according to inner force or stress distribution can be choosen.Thirdly, analysis theory of whole structure and partial thick plate is introduced in detail. Construction crafts including support system, concrete construction, steel bars manufacture and prestress construction technology are also discussed.Finally, combining an actual instance, this paper analyzes the structural performance of whole structure and stress distribution. The design of placing bars by the method mentioned above is performed. These works certify the feasibility and practicality of analysis and design method discussed in this paper.The works and some conclusions of this paper can provide the conference to the design and construction of the thick plate transition floor structures.
