As the core component of engine, the matching calibration of Electronic Control Unit (ECU) directly relates engine emissions, power and fuel economy performance. It belongs to the core part of Engine technology. So the optimization theory and methods of engine control system have great theoretical and practical significance.Calibration System is the most senior part in controlling software, who works according to the strategies and data of different states of the engine. It is of great significance that functions of ECU are being constantly strengthened while the control object is gradually increasing.Based on the project "EFI single fuel CNG car research and development"about technologies of"15th"National Clean Vehicle Application, an electronic fuel controlling system about CNG engine was developed independently. The objective of this paper is to compile the basic engine calibration system. The core integrated on-line calibration and data acquisition calibration system ECS was projected, which could meet the needs of calibration experiments.Based on the Windows platform and using Visual the C++ 6.0, ECS has established the SDI software construction, which has inherited the MFC foundation. It uses advanced technology of modern software design, such as the multi-thread design and Windows API serial port programming. ECS applies some high-level controls such as GridCtrl and so on. ECS has realized Visual C++ and MATLAB mixed programming and got a very good result in the aspects of the value computation and the graph imagery processing function. It provides a higher starting point for the more complex data post-processing.ECS, based on the object-oriented programming concepts, has established the foundation development class and realized the good function of modules and the seal. It using the unique format of data stream, data communication protocols and document attributes also has realized variety of advanced data processing, display technology etc. These methods could accommodate to the changes of expansion of ECU fouctions, the data length, location, attributes and so on. The scalability and adaptability of the ECU system have been strengthened.On-line calibration and data acquisition integration are available in this system, which could adjust controlling parameters. The controlling parameters will be transmitted to ECU in the method of serial communication. After treatment, controlling signals are transmitted to the engine. This way has improved the degree of automation of the calibration experiments.The main characteristics of ECS are as follow:(1) The form of ECS'controlling data satisfies the engine control system and meets the needs of gasoline engine control.(2) It has good adaptability to the changes of ECU functions and the control strategies.(3) It has functions of control data on-line calibration .(4) It can gather data and show the process in transient and steady-state data acquisition of the engine and the ECU.(5) It allows for analysis and optimization.(6) ECS also has a friendly interface and improved document processing module. This paper describes design methods of the ECS data formats, data attributes documents and communication protocol. Details are as following:(1) This paper has learned domestic and foreign advanced engine calibration system-related technologies, including some related design standards, and software technology. It has identified ECU calibration system design program and software design technology.(2) This paper has developed calibration system―ECS ,which has a good extension to adapt to the changes of control strategies.The definition of the data format and communication protocol could suit to the requirements of the ECU.(3) This paper has found a well-designed experimental method. ECS has been tested by it.This paper has made rigorous tests and calibration experiments on ECS. The calibration system has good scalability, stability and reliability, with which basic calibration functions could be completed. Because of the complexity of software and heavy workload, in this paper, ECS will focus on the design of the core functions of calibration system, which will providesa solid platform for further expansion.
