With the development of economy and society, urban traffic problem has been paid to more and more attention. Walking is an important way as urban traffic, even irreplaceable in some cases. Pedestrians are always regarded as traffic disruption in previous studies. In recent years, the problem of pedestrian traffic in urban can't been ignored because of the strong proponent of the sustainable development concept of "person—oriented". Pedestrians are "disadvantaged groups" in traffic environment, especially in unsignalized crosswalk. Vehicle operations rely completely on drivers' compliance with traffic regulations when there aren't traffic signals. It is significant to seek measures to improve pedestrian safety under the premise of present facilities. The paper will study the relevant traffic characteristics in urban unsignalized crosswalks based on the country natural Fund Project "driving behavior collaborative simulation modeling theory and methods" and the western transportation construction technology project "study on effectiveness of traffic signs legibility and setting". The paper does actual observation and analysis of the test data on the basis of above theoretical analysis according to actual situation of unsignalized crosswalk in Nanhu Road near the South Gate of Jilin University of Technology. It analyzes the rule of pedestrian arriving at the crosswalk, the characteristics of pedestrian velocity and the passing vehicles. At the same time, the paper proposes two optimization plans of pedestrian traffic and builds the model of pedestrian and vehicle affecting mutually. Under the VISSIM software simulation environment , the two optimization plans are simulated and appraised. The study findings have certain model significance to the proposing of pedestrian traffic optimization plans. The paper summarizes the studies as follows.Chapter one is exordium. It mainly introduces the research goal, significance, pedestrian traffic characteristics, the present situation and exist question of domestic and foreign research as well as the main content in this paper;In chapter two, the paper studies the characteristics of traffic flow in the crosswalk on the basis of reviewing the pedestrian traffic flow model. It analyzes the mutual disturbance process of vehicle and pedestrian qualitatively. It analyzes the pedestrian movement characteristics, psychological characteristics as well as the efficiency;In chapter three, the paper selects the specific section and does actual observation and test. In view of the pedestrian flow optimization behind, it only analyzes the rule of pedestrian arriving at the crosswalk, the characteristics of pedestrian velocity and the passing vehicles. It analyzes the influence of age, sex and the crowd quantity on pedestrian velocity with emphasis;In chapter four, the paper discusses the thought of simulating pedestrian, builds the simulation model of pedestrian and vehicle affecting mutually and gives the corresponding parameter setting under VISSIM software circumstance. It carries simulation to the selected section according the simulation model after gathering data needed. The paper analyzes the simulation results and certificates the feasibility of model built at the same time;In chapter five, the paper selects the actual section—the unsignalized crosswalk in Nanhu Road near South Gate of Jilin University of Technology and proposes two optimization plans according to the actual situation. It carries simulation in VISSIM software circumstance according to the simulation model built. The paper analyzes the feasibility of the two plans and carries the contrast analysis of the two plans;Chapter six is the summary. The main research content are summarized and the problems which need to be researched more deeply are presented.Main achievement of this paper:1.
