The varieties of the cars are very large, and the new generations of cars appear fast, each home automobile manufactory produces its own new styles of cars to meet need of all levels of customers the markets. The automobile bedrock includes to spread to move the department, drive the department, change direction the department and make to move to fasten the four greatest systems.Each system is all count for much, they come to a decision the motive, economy of the automobile and manipulate the stability, going smoothly, safety, of the system since mutually the connection is again mutually independently. The automobile steering system is one of the important systems of the chassis. The steering system is the key assembly which decides the automobile's positive safety, especially for today's high speed of vehicles, unprofessional drivers and high dense vehicles on the streets, the handling of a car is of importance for those who drive unskillfully. This paper mainly deals with the common failure– hard steering -- existing in home-made steering system. In order to solve this problem many scientific experiment have been made to improve the design configuration and manufacture quality; and make the customers use the steering system more reasonable and problems of steering system happen less.The main contents of the paper as follows:This passage is divided five parts.Chapter 1 deals with the automobile steering system's important functions and influence on the driving safety and explains the main contents of the automobile handling stability towards the car safety; and analyzes the present condition of steering system researched at home and abroad, introduces main research contents and purposes.Chapter 2 introduces the types of automobile steering system and its functions, and explains the power steering linkage and construction and its operating principles in detail.Chapter 3 theoretically analyzes the causes of hard steering happened in the steering system in design and configurations, manufactures and application in details. Through many experiments the causes of the failures are further analyzed.Chapter 4 mainly talks about the national standards on the limit of steering force and test methods of easy steering and the test methods. And also introduces the easy-steering experiments with the modeling of person-car-road close rings. Through the many experiments analysis of hard steering has been made and further measures will be taken.Chapter 5 sums up the main achievements of this paper, and mentions the problems that should be pay attention to and suggestions in the study on the failures of steering system.
