The application of network optimization technique in engineering practice will not only save a great deal of money, but also improve hydraulic conditions of the whole network, and this will lead to great economic and social benefits. This thesis mainly studies the optimum design for urban water supply and distribution system. Firstly, it conducts in depth study by aiming at the basis of optimum design, such as the layout of water supplying network and its simplification, and the hydraulic analysis of the network system. Then by using system theory, this thesis sets up mathematic models under various water supplying conditions, and analyzes the effect of economic parameters to the optimized calculation results. Finally this thesis conducts system analysis to the solving method of network system model. The optimization result of standard optimization arithmetic is a continuous variable, while the real pipe diameter is a discontinuous variable. The results of standard optimization may not satisfy the design requirements due to the above reason. By using Flowmaster software, the optimization result is simulated. Information about all nodes and pipelines can be obtained and the pipeline network model is verified. By combining the Flowmaster software and standard optimization arithmetic, the limitation of standard optimization arithmetic in the calculation of pipeline network is solved.Took water supplying system of Nanchong City as example, this thesis conducts optimal layout and reasonable simplification to the city's network system during its new construction, reconstruction or expansion. This thesis also obtains the optimization results through hydraulic calculation. Based on the content of optimum design method and by using Flowmaster Software for simulation, this thesis gets satisfactory results.
