It is also a period of our modern landscape formation and development . In the 160 years, China's landscape subjects from theory to technology have been a tremendous development. The study of this process is a basis to direct the development of Chinese modern Landscape Architecture.In this paper, combining the study to the social the cultural and the historical background, the writer made a detailed research to the development of various phases of modern landscape practice and theory and a reproduction about the transformation process of Chinese landscape from classical to modern. In the 160 years which covers late Qing Dynasty Republic of China and the Peoples Republic of China, our Landscape Architecture's development has experienced three stages. First is the imperial garden decline and the emergence of public green area of late Qing Dynasty. Second is the open of Royal garden to the decline of classical private gardens to the rising of public landscape and to the theory accumulation of modern landscape architecture in Republic of China. Third is the popularity of public landscape to the modern Landscape Architecture subject's disciplines forming to the modern Landscape Architecture knowledge system's being rich and to the theory disciplines forming of Landscape planning system for the earth. Such changes development and progress is a result of China's modern social and cultural development.
