The Color Of Cities

The city color,the main issue of this thesis, which means the general image of colors that comprise the elements of the urban environment,is one of the key charicteritics of a city. The visual qualities of urban environment,as well as the natural and cultural features of regions,are reflected by the city color to high extent.The city color comprises many elements in urban environment, in which the general color image of the city buildings takes a main part.On condition that the natural settings -espetially the natural lights- vary,the city color varies,too.And people's impression on the city color is due to the spatial distance and the means of movement.The steady image of city color arises from the long-time evolution of the city.So,it's very clear that the harmony of city color can't be realized by the short-time ornament.Mainly concerning the urban environment,urban design is considered an effective means to study and deal with the issues of city color.It is proposed that the guidelines of city color can firstly be carried out in the urban design of typical characteristic districts in city,which is more efficient and effective.
