| Plan and section are both basic descriptions of architectural space. Section thought is a breakthrough at design relative to plan. It is a kind of status as well as a view of angle in architectural design. Therefore, the study of architectural section shuffles off the superficial research of the style while involving the methods of design and the viewpoint of architectural analysis.Putting the section on display has become a very outstanding topic in contemporary architecture. By inquiring of the architectural space slice, the thesis tries to cognize the section thought rationally and explores the inherent discipline of the architectural phenomena, then summarize the theories which help to the practice of architectural design.This thesis is composed of five chapters. Chapter 1 involves the expression of slice from the relationship between space and perception, and then come to the conception about general slice and partial slice, which help to form the foundation cognition. Chapter 2 inquires into the history background and dynamic rules of the section thought from the two levers of perception. We firstly discuss the transformation of the verticality with the viewpoint of vision and secondly the transformation of the space order with the viewpoint of movement, and then come to the same conclusion that the importance of section thought is growing up in contemporary architecture. Chapter 3 discusses the level of technology. Illustration transforms the thought, the process and the result of design. Chapter 4 analyses several contemporary buildings from the aspect of space movement and general slice with the summarization of four types of space order: stripe, superposition, folding and complect. Chapter 5 inquires into the relationship of space and section from two aspects of general slice and partial slice. Section thought has powerful influence on the process of architectural design. |
