Side slip and spin always bring on badly accidents. With the speed rising up, they become more and more dangerous. According to an investigation, when the speed was between 80km/h and 100km/h about 40% of the accidents were related to side direction instability. If the speed was up to 160km/h, nearly 100% of the accidents were caused by side direction instability. At the same time, automotive manufacturer found out that the common brake system can not prevent these accidents, even ABS and ASR can't prevent these at all. So, we need a new type of safety system which can prevent side slip and spin---that is Electronic Stability Program. ESP can control the yaw rate of vehicle, and make the vehicle always run as the driver wanted.First, this paper mainly introduced the system function, evaluation and research status quo of ESP. It also described ESP algorithm, mechanical structure and working-mode analysis. The'V'design flow was focused during ESP industrialization development to complete Rapid Control Prototyping and HIL simulation.In addition, this paper presented specific improved solution that aimed at ECU hardware which was developed at the early phase.
