The appearance of high-speed and super-high-speed elevators bought various aerodynamic problems; one of these problems is the encounter process of elevator car and counter-weight in the hositway channel. When the counter-weight passes by the elevator car in the hoistway, the aerodynamic force and surface acoustic power will be intensified. In the present study, a two-dimensional model of the elevator car and counter weight system was set up; computational fluid dynamics (CFD) in combination with dynamic meshing method was extensively employed to simulate the highly unsteady turbulent flows in a view to see the aerodynamic and aeroacoustic influences of the traveling counter weight on the elevator car. The numerical analysis was performed in terms of variable parameters, e.g., traveling speed of the car, the horizontal gap between car and counter-weight, width of the car and geometry of the windshield.When the counter-weight is far from the car, the aerodynamic force on...
