In the recent two decades, western architecture was in a historical time when lots of architecture genres emerge. A group of architects were then making their own creation with simple form elements. Their works were almost extremely pure geometrical-form without any enrichment of volume composition. This kind of architecture, which is called minimalism architecture, has a great relationship with the minimal art in American 1960s. But the reducing aesthetic in architecture was brought out during the Modern Architecture Movement in 1920s. This article summarizes the background, including social, cultural, economic and etc. and regards it as the key point to understand the minimalism architecture. The paper analyzes the aesthetic characteristics of image era, and divides minimalism into image and anti-image architecture based on it. At last, the paper analyzes the deep-rooted reason for the prevailing of minimalism architecture in China from the"person"respect (including masses, developer and architect) and make the introspection to this stream of thought.
