Heat exchange, heating and cooling, between inside and outside duct can be widely used in many industries, such as petro-chemical engineering, food engineering etc. Passive Technology of enhanced heat transfer was proposed after people's long focus, and static mix is an effective one of these technologies.Static mixer with motionless parts has been well known as its mix efficiency, and the SMV static mixer is the most old-line and typical one. SMV static mixer with its mixing elements which are fit along the flow channel dramatically enforces fluid groups to do various movements and effectively help fluids to achieve the condition of well dispersion and fully mixing. So, SMV static mixer, just like other static mixers, finds its goods in the field of enhanced heat transfer and becomes one of the excellent Passive Technologies. This article presents studies on the flow and heat transfer performance of the SMV static mixer by the means of theoretical analysis, numerical calculations, and experiment tests.Fluid enforced by the"V"channels rushes to the wall of the SMV static mixer. So, the fluid near the wall was refreshed continuously. As a result, the flow and thermal boundary layer can not fully develop as well as the condition of the entrance of a straight circular pipe. According to this, a model of convective heat transfer of SMV static mixer was setup by considering an existing solution of a straight circular pipe. Then, an Nu equation was obtained from integrating the solution.The main task of this thesis is to simulate the flow regimes and to calculate the heat transfer coefficients by numerical method. Computational Fluid Dynamics(CFD) calculation strategy is presented in detail. Numerical method with its wonderful graphic output helps us know more about the flow regimes in the SMV static mixer.Not only have the effects referred above been approved, but also cross flow has been witnessed intuitively. According to the calculated results, both of the pressure drop and heat transfer coefficients have been calculated. These results provide important foundation for the further research on SMV static mixer by numerical method.
