As is used widely the reinforced masonry shear wall, more masonry structures with big span or depth and the reconstruction-strengthening designs were adopted often. So it is important to study the mechanical behaviors of the structure for practical application. In this paper, the 10 reinforced concrete masonry walls have been strengthened by the method of steel-adhered, and have been tested subjected to out-of-plane eccentric load. The capacities, the load-deformation relationship, the failure process and mode have been studied. The influence factors to the capacity are considered, such as quantity of steel adhered, eccentricity of rest, ratio of height to sectional thickness of walls, and the whole test process was recorded. The result of test demonstrates that the effect of strengthening of steel-adhered is obvious. It is shown that the formulas about the eccentricity members in Code for design concrete structures and Code for design masonry structures are suitable for this problem. The nonlinear FEM program ANSYS is adopted to simulate the behaviors of masonry walls steel-adhered. The tested walls were simulated, and the results are close with the test. Subsequently, an extensive parametric study is conducted to analyze the effect of different factors (the rebar in the button stem, quantity of steel adhered, intensity of masonry, eccentricity, reinforcement percentage, height-to-width ratio etc.) on the capacity. From the verification of FEM analysis, it is shown that the formula of code is in good agreement with the FEM analysis results.
