Reactive power optimization is an effective method to keep power system safe and economy, and it's an important measure to improve voltage quality. Therefore, from the current situation of the oilfield power supply system in China, to study the problem of reactive power optimization is both theoretically and practically valuable. Firstly, integrated the current function of oilfield distribution system, the background, existing problems and fundamental theories on the reactive power optimization in distribution system have been studied, and the necessity and feasibility of study on this subject have been illustrated.Secondly, the establishment of mathematic model and its solutions have been discussed in details, based on which, an mathematic model suitable for the reactive power optimization in oilfield distribution system is put forward, and the optimal compensating points and capacities are worked out directly. During the calculating of the reactive optimization, the ratio of three different load manners is fully taken into account in a year, the maximum load wastage time is used to coordinate the cost of power energy loss in different load function manners, and the unilateralism of onlyconsidering single load level is avoided. Finally, the networks of Nanqi and Wangdao in the second oil extraction plantof Zhongyuan oilfield have been analyzed in details. Reactive optimization arithmetic is used to figure out the optimal compensating points and capacities. Thus, the level of safety and economy of the two networks are improved, the network wastage of the system is reduced, and the voltage quality of the whole network is improved remarkably in the same time. The calculated result is satisfied.
