As heavy industry, such as automobile and shipping, in china have gradually developed nowadays,the CMM has become the indispensable equipment for enterprise technological progress, product upgrading and quality control. However, the close-architecture of hardware and software has become unsuitable for development of manufacturing informationization and agile manufacturing, as well. In order meet the requirement of modern manufacturing , it is necessary to develop open-architecture CMM. This paper focuses on applying USB to CMM as uniform communication interface to solve the problem of open-architecture of control system.This paper can be divided into six chapters. In Chapter one,we simply introduce the current situation and its future of CMM,and the significant meaning for applying USB to CMM.Chapter two simply introduces the function and the framework of CMM Control System, then the characteristics of some usual CMM communication bus and the requirement for choosing the open-architecture CMM Control Syestem communication bus are analyzed. Based on these analysis ,we choose USB bus as CMM Control Syestem's communication bus. In addition, the framework and communication protocols of USB are introduced.Chapter three gives the constructions of CMM Control System which based on USB-bus, and then gives the design of hardware and software in detail.In Chapter four, the development of portable controller which is the key control component of CMM is discussed in detial.Firstly, the funtional requirement of portable controller. Further more, USB hardware design, firmware programming implementation and device driver design are amply narrated in the rest.In Chapter five, according to CMM Control System module, edit module, communication module and interrupt service programm are given in details, respectively.In Chapter six the experiment of communication between CMM control system and portable controller is made to testify feasibility of system.Chapter seven, the conclusion is given and the prospect of the future improvement is also put forward.
