The Proper Orthogonal Decomposition (POD) technique has been applied to decompose and reconstruct wind pressure fields in earlier studies. However, the purpose was mainly to compress data from wind pressure fields and analyze modes of wind force on structures in these studies. In this paper, wind pressure field on a pitched roof is decomposed and reconstructed using POD technique. The POD technique has been used to predict the wind pressure time series on the locations where the pressure taps are not distributed. The linear interpolation and the bilinear interpolation are employed to obtain the values of the proper modes on locations where wind pressure time series are to be predicted. Combining the principal coordinates from the covariance analysis of the original pressure field and the new proper mode values above, the wind pressure time series on the location without the pressure taps are acquired. The effectiveness of POD in the prediction of wind pressure field on a pitched roof has been illustrated by means of comparing the predicted pressures with the measured values in the time domain and the frequency domain. The data of wind pressure field obtained from wind tunnel test and prediction are both employed to calculate the response of the structure. | Keywords/Search Tags: | structural engineering, wind load analysis, proper orthogonal decomposition, pitched roof, interpolation, prediction | PDF Full Text Request | Related items |
