It's very difficult to make sure the reliability of the circuit breakers, which take on control and protect in power system. It's performance and reliability is important to the safe operation of the power system. So, the best way to realize scientific management, the best economic efficiency and social efficiency is to monitor and analyze the circuit breaker's status really in time, make sure safe operation, increase usableness and realize Condition Based Maintenance.The necessity and the feasibility of Condition Based Maintenance for HVBC and the abuse of present maintenance way were analyzed. Based on analyzing present status of condition maintenance for the High Voltage Circuit Breakers(HVCB), a new method for evaluation the HVCB status, with catastrophe theory and fuzzy mathematics, is introduced in this paper. At first all kinds of parameter which indicate the circuit breaker status, and the degree that the parameter influence the circuit breaker are analyzed. From the need of condition assessment and actual operability, technical parameter which indicate the circuit breaker operation status are selected as the evaluate factors of comprehensive evaluation model. The complex system is divided into some subsystems and a multiple layer comprehensive evaluation model is established according to the catastrophe theory and the intrinsic mechanism of the HVCB. Based different influenced degree and the intrinsic mechanism of the unitary formula, the factor index's weight in the model is determined. Consulted the way of establish membership function in fuzzy mathematics and the factor's characteristic, each factor's membership function is established. The total function value of the HVCB can be got through recursion operation with the unitary formula.The fuzzy comprehensive evaluation way based on the catastrophe theory, combining all kinds of parameter which indicate the circuit breaker status. It provide a new way for evaluationg the operation status of the HVCB.
