Due to its ill penculliarity, frequent appearance of geologic disaster lead by it and comprehensive distributing in the world, the expansive soil has been one of the most important engineering problems in the world, though had been studien fo almost half a century, the engineering problem caused by the expansive soil remains happened invariably.Firstly , through comprehensively study on the inland expansive soil of YunNan Province, GuangXi Province, HeNan Province, JiangXi Province and HuNan prorince etc., a lot of real engineering instances and research achievements were analysed.Sencendly, by the support project, nine group of indoor experimentation was carried on, which simulated the climate of sunlight, overcast and rainfall and the formation grade of 1:0.75,1:1,1:1.5,1:2. The humidity migration theory of cracking expansive soil, the influence of water to the topsoil of the cracking expansive soil under the function of the alternation of the dryness and wetness were summarized at the same tine. All of above have offered the academic thereunder to the design of the drainage in the expansive soil area.Thirdly, combinating the drainge desige, the surface drainage and the calculational methods of the best fracture were deeply studied, and systemic calculation principle and methods in the expansive soil had been put forward. The primary drainary means were discussed, including the principle of the design of drainage, calculation methods and some primary means.At last, all the results are used in the drainage and protection design of the support project—the Nan You Road, which commendaly resolved the engineering actual problems and brough good economic benefit, social benefit and environment benefit.
