On The High-rise Building's Torsion

With the social development and people's life' progress, the requirement to architectures becomes sophisticated and diversified. High-rise building is developed as one resolution to it. Nowadays the material and technique conditions make the high-rise building possible. These conditions include the advancement of science and technology, the outcomes of high-strengthening light materials and the application of the mechanization, electrification and computer in the architecture. Recently, high-rise building is becoming popular in China. And the height is increasing, the type and function complex, structural system diversified.Before 1980's, most of our country's high-rise buildings are regular and simple. The plane figures are rectangular-shaped. A few of L-shaped or trough-shaped buildings could be found. But these days the high-rise buildings become more and more complex in structures and out side figures.With the advancement of science and technology, new codes are formulated and promulgated in 2000 under the intensive analyses and investigations to the complex structures, enormous and full experiments on the models and better understanding of the object world. In comparison with the 1989' codes, the new codes make detailed analyses and studies on shockproof and anti-torsion. In addition, the new codes make reasonable acceptances and rejections, become more national and improve a great deal. Are there any differences, in the period of alternate usage of old codes and new codes, to an old-codes-guided building compared to the new codes? And how to make the adjustment to the building? This paper tries to find some general resolutions out of the individual phenomenon and make a better understanding of the new codes.This paper is based on a high-rise building in Wuhan in 1997, which was coordinated, by one of my supervisor Ms. Peng Qi-yu. When studies the original model and the old codes, a new model is built and results calculated. Furthermore, new analyses are carried out under the new codes and structural design is adjusted and improved to meet the new codes.
