Considered the requirements of the speed and the precision in target detection, the scheme which is based on image processing has been designed out for target detection in the paper. It's important that the algorithmic study of the target detection and the center of the target location. First of all,the Candidate target is separated from background, then the target is detected and its centre is localized by using the technology of centroid arithmetic and sub-pixel. It's the key that target detection and center of the target location in the paper. Characteristic parameters of standard target are regarded as the criterion. The characteristic parameters of the Candidate target are calculated, and compared with the criterion. Finally the target is found in the image. A new sub-pixel subdivision algorithmic is put forward in the paper which is named the TARGET sub-pixel subdivision algorithmic. In the algorithmic, firstly the energy distribution law of the target is analyzed, then the sub-pixel center of the target is calculated by calculating the energy Curve extreme point. This new sub-pixel subdivision technology is used in the project. The result of the test shows that the technology can be fit for the requests of the testing precision.
