Wear is one of the major causes of machinery parts' failures. One approach to analyze wear failure is to measure wear amount, however, traditional ways to measure or evaluate wear amount are not suitable for the complicated parts. So, it is very necessary to develop new methods to measure or evaluate wear amount.Based on Reverse Engineering, this paper proposed methods to express parts' wear amount directly. All-digital-analysis-process will be helpful to measure wear exactly, to analyze wear process dynamically, and also will provide rich information for the analysis of the wear failure, the research on the wear mechanism, and the recovery of the wore parts.Main results of this paper include: (1) On the basis of summarizing and analyzing the key techniques in Reverse Engineering, the methods are presented to digitize wore part and preprocess its point cloud; (2) On analyzing align theory and methods, the methods are presented to align wore part's CAD model with its original CAD model precisely; (3) Three wear amount visualization approaches are proposed (color map and report forms, 3D pattern, deform animation); (4) Many solutions are proposed to cut down interactive and repetitive operations in reverse engineering.Detail examples and experiments are provided in corresponding sections of this paper to testify scientificalness and feasibility of all above methods.
