Power line carrier technology refers to the process of sending and receiving data by using the existing electrical wiring. It has a long tradition and is well established on high voltage power lines where they are used for control signaling and voice and data communications. The main application of this technology-Automatic Meter Reading (AMR) as it saves cost and labor is more accurate as well as have the ability to perform many other different functions that are beneficial to both the electricity supplier as well as the electricity user. Not forgetting, AMR is not only confined to the electricity field, but also can be extended to be used with water meters as well as gas meters or even a combination of these three different meters. AMR is the remote collection of consumption data from customer's utility meters. Meter reading is all about communication. That is the accurate conveying of information from thousands of separate locations (the meters) to one location (utility office). Telephone, radio, power line carrier are the three most popular mediums. Power line carrier communication, however, in the last decade has become both potential and economical. Most home and building automation systems are subject to this kind of technological development. It is obvious that power line carrier technology has a great potential to become one of the main communication mediums. However, since power line is not designed for communication. The main challenge is the excessive noise for...
