In the designing of the new product lines, we can forecast the static and dynamic states of the product line in the phase of the designing and find the problems of the layout, the configuring and the controlling strategies in the system through the computer simulation which provides us an useful tool for the improvement of the system. Then, this paper made a discussion and analysis of the modeling method , the simulation method and the realization of the optimization process of the virtual assembly line system.The physical model is the base of the three-dimensional virtual scene creation and simulation of the virtual assembly line. The paper firstly makes some discussion in the object modeling method of the virtual assembly line workshop. Using different modeling methods based on different object models: physical object model , logical object model and accessorial object model. To improve the simulation speed and the shop-scene fidelity of the virtual assembly workshop, the paper introduces the method of the surface texture of the models and the general texture process of the workshop objects of the virtual assembly line.The paper bases on an assembly line of the gearbox factory of a certain automobile factory. This paper discusses the layout and construction of the virtual simulation environment of the gearbox assembly line. The emphasis of the study of the virtual assembly workshop's layout is the gearbox assembly line. Its main thread is the assembly flow of the gearbox assembly line. The layout and construction of the virtual simulation environment of the gearbox assembly line is built in Delmia/QUEST which is the 3D digital factory simulation software. Based on the layout of the assembly line, using all the object models build the physical model of the virtual assembly line, and also append some accessorial establishments, such as the floor, the wall, the door and the window, the lamplight and so on to design the scene of the virtual assembly workshop. Then we formed the model of the virtual assembly line workshop. During the building process of the physical models, we finished the definition of the logic events of the physical object models.Based on the virtual simulation model of the gearbox assembly line workshop which is finished in the prophase, the paper simulated the virtual assembly line. Using the simulation data, the paper analyzed some assembly line problems, such as the bottleneck problem, the unbalance problem, the hindered material-flow problem and so forth. The paper made some optimization and adjustment to the layout of the virtual assembly line based on the simulation data.
