Flow pulsation of hydraulic pumps is the source of pressure and flow pulsation in hydraulic systems. One method to reduce the pressure and flow pulsation of system is to reduce the flow pulsation of hydraulic pumps. As external gear pump has the most serious problem of flow pulsation, how to analyze the flow pulsation of gear pump and to optimize the construction parameters of gear pump is especially important for the design and performance improvement of gear pump.In this paper, on the basis of the analysis of gear pimp working principle, the mechanism of flow pulsation and methods of reducing flow pulsation are pulsation are studied. The computing formula of transient flow rate and the coefficient of flow pulsation are deduced. The relationship between the gear pump flow pulsation and the construction parameters of the gear is studied. Flow pulsation of a specific gear pump is analyzed and the results are given.According to the testing requirement of pump pulsation, the measurement device of the testing flow pulsation, based on ISO 10767-2 measurement standard, the measurement device of flow pulsation testing is built. High speed dynamic pressure transducer is used to record the pressure pulsation in the pipeline. The analysis result can be achieved according to the proportional relation between pressure pulsation and flow pulsation, as show in ISO 10767-2 standard.At last considering the flow pulsation as objective function, optimization of the parameters of the gear using GA method is brought forward and an optimum model is presented to achieve the optimal parameters of the gear that make the flow pulsation lowest.
