Steel slag is a kind of byproduct during steel-making. With the development of the iron and steel industry, the quantities of the steel slag become more and more and engross a mass of ground. In the steel slag, there are some silicemous glass crystal, alumious glass crystal and hydraulic mineral, such as C2S and C3S. Steel slag has fine hydraulic property and latent hydraulic property.When activated by lime, it has desirable reactivity. Recently, the traffic facilities have a great development in our country, and the quantitiy of road construction is gigantic, so the require of architectural construction material increases rapidly. If we put forward a safe and economical application of the steel slag in constructing the pavement base material, the road construction fee will be sharply cut down, and the environment pollution caused by steel slag will be reduced as well.The paper focuses on the steel slag of steel slag company in MA AN SHAN, after it is grinded, the steel slag replaces the fly ash of the Lime-fly-ash bound aggregate. That is how does the Lime-steel slag powder bound aggregate comes frome. The paper just studies and analyzes its characteristics, such as unconfirmed compressive strength, splitting tensile strength, modulus of compressive resilience, dry shrinkage propertiy and freeze-thaw resistance. Based on the test, the conclusion was driven that:1. After the fly ash of the Lime-fly-ash bound aggregate replaced by steel slag powder, the unconfirmed compressive strength, splitting tensile strength and modulus of compressive resilience of mixtures decrease. However, the strength can meet with the criterion if the amount and the size of steel slag powder are appropriate.2. The amount and the size of steel slag powder have great influence on the strength of mixtures. The strength and the rigidity of mixtures enhance with the size of steel slag powder droping, and the proportion of steel slag powder is suitable between 10 pecent to 15 pecent.3. The dry shrinkage and freeze-thaw resistance of Lime-steel slag powder bound aggregate improved a little, compared to that of Lime-fly-ash bound aggregate.In addition, relevant advices are proposed, which will provide some theoretical value and direction to the study of applying slag powder in the base of pavement.
