The south connection project of the Yetian River, located in the area of Lixia River in the Jiangdu city, is one of the impartment hydraulic engineering in the Jiangsu province. The main contents include: one river will be dug with the length about 4 km, which will connect the Hongqi River in the Nantong area and the Yetian River in the Lixia River region, linking the two large network of streams. The project will attain one the aim of each other of water sources. In the project, one water lock will be designed with the length of 120m and the width of 13m.The results of the investigation of engineering geology and the design manual in the engineering area show that there is one confined water layer, called No 5 layer, and one thin soil layer called No 4 layer in the bottom of the lock floor, soils to have the formation to accept to press the geology condition with layer of water. According to observation of the water level, with the water head of 6-7m, the water lock be dug will probably result to the seepage deformation of the foundation.This text firstly concentrates on the stability of seepage deformation of lock bottom by carrying on the analytical calculation. The result shows that there is a safe factor of 0.42 because of the thin relative aquiclude layer, and there is a probability of seepage deformation.On this foundation, considering the different work condition, the precipitation effect of a single well be analyzed. Result shows that the more the pump discharge, the more the circle influence, and the more the drawdown. Meanwhile, when the pump discharge for single well is the small, the influence circle and drawdown are big enough because of the relative small seepage coefficient. Therefore, the project uses a small pump discharge ( 10m~3/d) for a single well, that is, with 14 pump discharge wells, which gets enough drawdown. This fact comes to an anticipant result, to satisfy the engineering demand, and to guarantee fluent construction of the engineering.
