Analysis And Calculation During Pipe Jacking

Trenchless technology is a environmental-friendly installation method for undergroundpipes and cables. This method will be widly used in the future because it has suchadvantages as no disturb in traffic, no destroy in environment, short constructionperiod, low general cost and good safety.Pipe jacking is one method of trenchless technology. In the past 20 years, there is greatadvancement in pipe jacking theory, technology and equipment. As the development ofscience and technology, pipe jacking will also advance continuously for low cost andwide application.In this paper, the author first introduces the development history of pipe jacking andthree main construction methods, points out some issues in pipe jacking throughpractical construction experience;analyses and calculates the feeding resistance duringpipe jacking, the soil movement in shallow pipe jacking, the friction-reductionmechanism of grouting in long distance pipe jacking, as well as minimal curvatureradius in curve pipe jacking.
