With 3D design technology in the application and promotion of the manufacturing sector gradually. In the design stage is the processing, assembly of the design. The virtual products can avoid mistakes, effectively shortening the product development cycle, and reducing product development costs and manufacturing costs. With the development of the containers, quayside container cranes now become the main port handling tools. And engine underframe is an important part of the quayside container cranes. Underframe design is the bottlenecks of quayside container cranes design. The 3D design used in engine underframe is necessary.This text will introduce three-dimensional modelling techniques and CBR used in underframe design field, and the development of a set of three-dimensional intelligent underframe design system.This text will be divided the underframe into framework, machinery rooms, etc. the introduction to the progressive modelling methods and the number of spare parts for the mass production methods designed to establish some modules. Then select the corresponding modules based on the underframe assembly into 3D models. In 3D graphics modelling and into various parts of the definition of the match, ensured when certain parts of their local area or size changes, 3D models related to size and corresponding change, and in the construction of two-dimensional automatically change, thereby effectively avoid the designers neglect the potential design errors.With the investigation of the actual engine underframe design methods their design ideas is found coincide to Case- based reasoning. Thus Case- based reasoning willcombined with the engine underframe design.This design flow may absorb the successful experience of the products already exist, and accord with the designing habit of designers, so it is quite practical. Combine three-dimensional technique, the paper also develops the methods of express and search of underframe. Sum up present designing and manufactural experience of underframe, this text builds knowledge house and designing criterion house of underframe.SolidWorks software platform in the second developed a visual image, flexible and friendly, easy to operate three-dimensional underframe design system. The system can be achieved : the choice of the institutions relative to the corresponding module for automatic assembly, and then in the corresponding body diagram of parameters, update capable 3D models, updating project plans, the final automatic generation breakdown according the project.The application in Zhenhua Port Machinery Company greatly reducing engine underframe design time, effectively shortening the product development cycle, the system is described successful.
