An important and hard task that develop new type of auto engine and improve the performance of auto engine confronted us. It's a great strategy to develop electrical auto drive by hybrid electrical engine or fuel cell engine to conquer this challenge. The new type of auto characterized with the using of several kinds of energy. The dynamic test bed has many virtues that traditional steady test bed does not, and be used widely in the cause of auto engine's development. Setting up the dynamic engine test bed is the first step to integrate a new type of auto and engine test bed, especial the hybrid electrical engine and vehicle test bed which is based on the dynamic engine test bed.This paper analyzes the PUMA-Open test system which comprises the dynamometer, the control system, data acquiring and measuring devices, and the automatic operating system. The functions and characteristics of each subsystem are detailed in this paper. The engine temperature control system was devised based on the PID or 2/3 —Point controller to satisfy the requirement of engine. It can automatically steady the cooling water temperature and oil temperature according to the set value, and works with the PUMA system simultaneously, and can check the errors during the cause of working.This paper demonstrate the way that how to test the engine on the PUMA-Open test bed in details, specify the classification of the dynamics in vehicle, and demonstrate the way how to simulate the vehicle , the road load and the driver's behaviors in details. Some dynamic test run were carried on to prove the method used to simulate the vehicle. The test results show that the method is correct.A very important application of the dynamic engine test bed is testing the hybrid electrical engine and the parts comprising it. The paper specifies all the test contents and the structures of the test bed used to carry on these tests. A electrical motor test bed was set up based on the dynamic test bed, and the functions of the electrical motor test bed were checked on by some dynamic test runs.Modeling the dynamic performance of engine is the basis to control the engineand electrical motor work together efficiently in hybrid system. This paper analyzed the TU5JP engine's torque output performance by steady and dynamic engine test. A dynamic engine model is set up based on the test results. The modeling of the engine is based on the mean value engine model, which advantages and disadvantages are specified in this paper.
