For 5000 years developed, abundant urban culture has been formed.For the people living in the city to say, the city is the home of their spirit. The problem of losing tranditional urban culture and having no unique feature along with the rapid expansion of urban space is becoming more and more important in todays China. Because of the unilateral understanding of "renewal" idea, there is much confusion on operational areas, and all of this has broken the entirety appearance of the city.This article makes a systematic study about how to continuing the context of the city in the area of townscape. The contents include: analysising the formation of the townscape;elaborating the connection between city aesthetics and the design of townscape;discussing how to using tranditional aesthetic idea for reference on today's townscape design;introducing the method conservancing the memory of the city.Firstly, the context continuity towscape involves corpus' experience toward views as the formation process of the townscape, and this kind of experience included to mental impression that the city can recall. The relation that hunman makes objective reality as his object reflects in the process of experiencing the view. And it makes an indepantental relation along with the development of production—aesthetic relation. So we can say, the landscape was born in the relation of hunman and view.After the culture element of forming the landscape, there is much more thinking about the direction of cultural values. The history cultural background of the landscpe is one of the contents of the view" place" idea, the development and innovations of the townscape take this as the actual foundation.Creating the beautiful city is a target of the townscape design, and the historical and regional culture is the source of city's beauty. Aesthetics is one of the psychological experiences when people appreciate the literary works. Townscape is a cultural phenomenon and a reflection of human spiritual demanding.People regard the townscape as products of their own labour. As the same time, the creation of the city's beauty must be built on the understanding of aesthetics and the regulation of it. Chinese traditional aesthetics has much important references to setting up continuous developing idea of modern townscape and pay much attention to the people's experience in the environment.As to concrete method of design, we can take keeping the consecution of the history and space as the principle.Four kinds of concrete design methods are repairs and temper, contrast and convert;they are all an understanding about the "view" of the city. City are constitute of architectures which are artifical factor, when we talk about landscape, it usually comes to city's buildings.
