The Research On Urban Footbridge Space

Urban footbridge space is an important node of urban space, influence the activities of people, the city's function and landscape. Therefore, to achieve a correct and full understanding toward the urban footbridge space and to establish its important position in urban design is the significance of writing this thesis.Firstly, the thesis gives the definition of the urban footbridge space, and reviews the evolutions of footbridge space in the history from the point of view of the architecture technique, the development of the street and the city. Secondly, the thesis makes further research on the footbridge in three aspects: the bridge space, the space for pedestrians and the urban space, respectively from the point of view of the architecture, the people, and the city. In the same time, with some excellent footbridge space case study we will see some fresh ideas of footbridges planning and design. It shows that the footbridge design should be based on the space design. And it also shows the importance of intimate cooperation between architects, engineers and even artists. At last, based on the survey of the footbridge space in some particular areas in Shanghai, it has made some analysis of existent problems and prospect of pedestrian bridge in our country.
