The fire-resistive coating for steel structure is a significant one in the family of the fire-resistive coating which is an important material for fire safety in fire retardant materials.This thesis consists of two parts: introduction and research reports. In the first part, the development of fire retardant coating was briefly overviewed, and it was focus on reviewing the advance in the internal and oversea fire-resistive coating for steel structure. And then it was introduced in detail on the classification, fire-resisting mechanism and primary performance index of the fire-resistive coating for steel structure. It was concluded that it was very meaningful and valuable to develop a type of exterior and interior fire-resistive coating for steel structure with ultra-thin layer.In the second part, an exterior and interior ultra-thin intumescent fire-resistive coating for steel structure with high limit of fire resisting and fine durability was developed. At first, the effect of film-form materials, intumescent fire-retardant system and pigment on fire-resisting properties and durability were investigated; then the fire-retardant mechanism of the coating was discussed; and then the relation between film thickness and limit of fire-resisting was studied; lastly other related issues such as toxicity of smoke and gas produced in the coating combustion process, the application of the coating and enlarged trial-produce of the coating were preliminarily discussed. The results were shown as follows:(1) Improving the physico-chemical performance of film-form materials, which was obtained by using binder resin with well-integrated performance, could better the fire-resisting properties and durability of the coating. Here used the blend of chlorinated rubber and thermoplastic acrylic resin with the ratio of 3:1, and a proper amount of chlorinated paraffin as binders.(2) Choosing a proper intumescent fire-retardant system would be available for enhancing the fire-resisting properties and durability of the coating. The intumescent fire-retardant system was of importance for the coating to obtain good fire-resisting performance. We chose ammonium polyphosphate (APP), melamine (MEL) and pentaerythritol (PE) to get intumescent fire-retardant system whose accurate ratio was designed by orthogonal experiment method.
