In this paper,the numerical computational method is systematically studied for the steady seepage problem with the free surface of plain reservoir. A new computational model is put forward by use of the finite element method (FEM) to determine the free surface of steady seepage of plain reservoir on the basis of cut-off negative pressure method which is applied in the steady seepage computation.A great deal computations and analyses are carried out to the anti-seepage effects of geomembrane and put forward the anti-seepage and control effect theory of the geomembrane .It can be used to guide the design and construction of the anti-seepage geomembrane.The paper contains four parts.In the first part, the representative emblematic section is ascertained base on the analyses of geologic exploration data and the stratum structure. The laboratory data are processed,and the computational parameters are ascertained by use of the refutation analyses.In the second part, the general deterministic-solution problem of the steady seepage with the free surface of plain reservoir is explained and the weak expression of unknown function in the form of pressure field is derived.In the third part, by use of penalty funtion and isoparametric element, the FEM equation is derived.The general program is worked out.In the fourth part, a great deal computations and analyses are carried out the anti-seepage and control effect of geomembrane. The influence of position,material,thickness and depth of the anti-seepage wall upon the anti-seepage effect is studied and reached the applied value conclusion.
