Fully studying the observed deformation data of the dam can avert accidents or reduce the damage caused by accidents and make maximal use of the dam project under the safety precondition. Because of these, the study of the deformation characteristic of the dam and the determination of the deformation monitoring index are very important in both theory area and practice area. Based on the monitoring data, the Xin-an-jiang dam is thoroughly discussed by studying the typical dam sections as No. 3, No. 4, No. 13 and No. 23 using the method combing the numerical analysis method and structure analysis method. The main points of this dissertation are folio wings:(1) The deformation characteristic of the Xin-an-jiang dam is analyzed qualitatively by the way of time-space analysis method with the plumb line monitoring data. Based on the results got from the analysis, the statistic model of the displacements is set up and the main factors are separated. From this, the effects of these main factors on the deformation of the dam are analyzed quantitatively.(2) To ascertain the physical cause of the deformation characteristic of the Xin-an-jiang dam, thin layer element 3-D FEM method is studied and 3-D FEM analysis is made after the FEM model of the No. 3, No. 4, No. 13 and No. 23 dam sections are set up. The deformation rules of the dam are thoroughly discussed.(3) The hybrid numerical model of the displacements on the top of the No. 3, No. 4, No. 13 and No. 23 dam sections and of the beam space curve of the No. 4 dam section are established according to the 3-D FEM analysis result. The deformation characteristic is further analyzed and evaluated by using the factors separated by these models.(4)The general elastic modulus of the dam is back analyzed by using the statistic model, hybrid model and the 3-D FEM analysis result. The strength and the stability are checked by 3-D FEM analysis with the back analysis result. The monitoring indexes of the horizontal displacements on the top of the No. 3, No. 4, No. 13, and No. 23 dam sections are determined by typical low probability method and structure analysis method.
